Passenger Arrested After Trying to Open Plane Door at Boston’s Logan Airport
A Jet Blue airline passenger was taken into custody on Tuesday night at Boston Logan International Airport after attempting to open an aircraft door while it was getting ready for takeoff, according to a spokesperson from the Massachusetts Port Authority.
This episode occurred on Jet Blue Flight 161, which was scheduled to head to San Juan, Puerto Rico, as confirmed by an airline representative.
Authorities reported that a male traveler tried to open a door located over the wing of the aircraft while it was taxiing, causing the emergency slide to activate, the spokesperson shared with YSL News on Wednesday morning.
The activation of the emergency slide prompted an urgent response, officials noted.
“The individual did not leave the plane and Massachusetts State Police were summoned,” the spokesperson added.
The flight was later transferred to a different aircraft, according to the airline representative.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, Crawley stated.
Flight tracking service FlightAware indicated that this incident resulted in a flight delay of nearly three and a half hours.
The flight, originally set to depart at approximately 6:50 p.m., eventually took off just after 10:40 p.m., landing in Puerto Rico shortly after 3 a.m.
Passenger to Face Arraignment
The passenger is expected to be arraigned in East Boston District Court on Wednesday, as reported by CNN and local news outlet WBTS-TV.
Authorities have not yet revealed the name of the individual involved.
“We appreciate our customers’ patience as we worked to handle this situation,” remarked the Jet Blue spokesperson.
