Elon Musk Strengthens Support for Far-Right German Party During X Discussion

In a conversation with the leader of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party on his social media platform X, Elon Musk encouraged Germans to support the party in the upcoming elections, showcasing his increasing involvement in European political matters.

During a lengthy and at times awkward dialogue that covered topics such as immigration, Germany’s bureaucratic processes, energy policies, space colonization, and even God and Adolf Hitler, Musk and AfD chancellor candidate Alice Weidel concurred that the AfD could address Germany’s existing issues.

“It’s crucial for people to support the AfD; otherwise, conditions in Germany will worsen significantly,” Musk stated. He also noted that “Alice Weidel is a very rational individual. Nothing extreme is being proposed.”

Musk reaffirmed his previous endorsement of the anti-immigration and anti-Islam AfD party, which has been classified as extremist by German security agencies, sparking backlash and claims of unwanted influence from Berlin.

Despite polling in second place, the AfD has little chance of gaining government control as other political parties refuse to collaborate with it. Nevertheless, there are concerns that Musk’s validation could enhance the party’s appeal, reducing support for traditional parties and complicating coalition-building efforts.

Following his recent engagement with the AfD, Musk’s vocal support for right-wing and anti-establishment parties across Europe comes after he employed his social media platform and considerable wealth to aid Republican candidate Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. presidential race last November.

Weidel expressed her appreciation for Musk’s backing in fluent English, mentioning that it was the first time in a decade she had an uninterrupted platform to voice her opinions amid what she perceives as a biased media landscape.

While discussing policies, both agreed that Germany’s decision to give up nuclear energy was “insane” and acknowledged the issues surrounding immigration, but they were animated while addressing more philosophical topics.

‘Hitler was a communist’

“The major achievement of other parties after that dreadful period in history was painting Adolf Hitler as right-wing and conservative. He was, in fact, the opposite. He was neither conservative nor libertarian, but rather a communist socialist,” she explained.

Most historians widely categorize Hitler as a far-right eliminationist nationalist.

Musk defended his involvement in German politics by citing his “significant investments,” particularly Tesla’s first European plant, and he acknowledged the AfD’s favorable stance on regulation, taxation, and market deregulation.

Musk recounted the bureaucratic challenges he faced when establishing the Tesla plant in Germany, sharing, “We faced a permit comprising 25,000 pages, all printed on paper. We needed numerous copies, resulting in an entire truckload of paperwork.”

In August, Musk initiated a similar dialogue with Trump, who subsequently appointed him to lead efforts for making the U.S. government more efficient.

Weidel moderated the latter part of the conversation, inviting Musk to share his thoughts on achieving peace in Ukraine, the potential for Mars colonization, and his views on God. Musk was open about the latter two topics but hesitated to comment on Ukraine, stating that finding a resolution was Trump’s responsibility.

On the subject of energy, Musk supported Germany’s renewable energy ambitions but sided with Weidel regarding the unfavorable nature of discontinuing nuclear energy.

“When I learned that Germany was shutting down its power plants after being cut off from Russian gas, I thought this is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever witnessed,” he remarked.

European leaders have voiced their concerns over Musk’s political actions recently, with calls for the EU to implement stricter laws to protect its democracies from external interference.

The European Commission has stated it will include this dialogue in its ongoing investigation into X and potential breaches of the Digital Services Act, particularly regarding possible preferential treatment for “certain types of content.”
