Ford Unveils Exclusive Mustang GTD Supercar Edition Starting at $325,000
Good news for Mustang fans: Ford Motor Co. has launched an exclusive edition of its Mustang GTD, the high-performance supercar that began deliveries this year.
Just last month, the Mustang GTD became the first American-made car to finish a lap at Germany’s Nürburgring in under 7 minutes. To celebrate this milestone, Ford introduced the Mustang GTD Spirit of America edition on the evening before the Detroit Auto Show media day.
The Spirit of America features a Performance White body adorned with double racing stripes in Race Red and Lightning Blue, echoing the legendary red, white, and blue Mustang stripes from 1964. These stripes extend along the full length of the Mustang GTD Spirit of America and resemble the jumpsuits worn by Craig Breedlove, who broke the 500- and 600-mph barriers in the 1960s.
Breedlove, who worked as a structural engineering technician in aerospace, purchased a $500 jet engine from a Korean War fighter jet and became the first person to reach both the 500- and 600-mph land speed records. His achievements, in a field that was largely dominated by European aristocrats, motivated American car designers, engineers, and inventors, including those who contributed to the Mustang GTD project, according to Ford.
“The Mustang GTD is the pinnacle of Mustang performance. The Spirit of America edition pays tribute to the boldness behind that performance,” stated Mustang GTD Brand Manager Jim Owens. “Without trailblazers like Craig Breedlove who dared to challenge the giants of the time in a uniquely American way, the Mustang GTD would not exist.”
The Mustang GTD Spirit of America prominently features exposed carbon fiber on various aerodynamic parts, including the front splitter, the rear diffuser, and the spoiler, according to Ford.
The spoiler has Race Red end plates and the word “MUSTANG” displayed on its underside. Buyers have the option to select either Race Red or carbon fiber mirror caps, while Race Red brake calipers come as standard. Additionally, the Mustang GTD Performance Package is included by default.
Ford representative Brandon Turkus mentioned that the Mustang GTD Spirit of America can currently be ordered “for approved applicants across all Mustang GTD markets.” However, specific pricing for the Mustang GTD special editions and options has not been disclosed, but the starting price for the Mustang GTD is around $325,000.
The Mustang GTD Spirit of America also boasts a special seat option in its all-glass cockpit. The seats are upholstered in leather with Dinamica inserts, a material that has a suede-like appearance. Ford describes these seats as a blend of black onyx featuring “a Race Red gradient stripe in the center, complemented by Re-Entry White trims on the sides and subtle accents with Victory Blue stitching.
Victory Blue serves as a contrasting color throughout the interior, and the paddle shifters, shift ring, and instrument panel badge can be upgraded to 3D-printed titanium options.
The 2025 Mustang GTD, as well as the Mustang GTD Spirit of America edition, is equipped with 815 horsepower, 664 pound-feet of torque, and achieves a top speed of 202 mph, a record for any street-legal Mustang.
