Jalen Hurts injury update: Latest on Eagles’ QB concussion ahead of wild-card playoff game

The Philadelphia Eagles are looking forward to having an important player back in the lineup.

Jalen Hurts, who has been sidelined for two weeks due to a concussion sustained in Week 16, returned to practice on Thursday. This marks a significant milestone for the quarterback, who has been under the league’s concussion protocol since his injury against Washington.

The Eagles are preparing for a wild-card game against the Green Bay Packers at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, with hopes of making a deep run in the playoffs. With Hurts seemingly back on track, Philadelphia’s offense is expected to get a significant boost from his return.

Here’s the latest on Hurts and his chances of clearing concussion protocol ahead of the playoff game.

Jalen Hurts injury update

According to the Eagles’ injury report, Hurts fully participated in practice on Thursday.

This was a significant improvement compared to his limited participation on the first day of practice, Wednesday. However, Hurts has not yet passed the league’s concussion protocol, meaning he still has some hurdles to clear before being eligible for Sunday’s game.

If things continue to progress well, there’s a good chance Hurts could be cleared by Friday or Saturday, provided there are no setbacks.

Meanwhile, Kenny Pickett, the Eagles’ backup quarterback, was also listed as a limited participant in practice on Thursday. If Hurts is unable to get medical clearance, Pickett is likely to take the reins against the Packers.

NFL concussion protocol rules

The NFL’s concussion protocol consists of five stages that any player diagnosed with a concussion must complete before being allowed back on the field.

Here are the five steps outlined by the NFL:

  1. Symptom limited activity
  2. Aerobic exercise
  3. Football specific exercise
  4. Club-based non-contact training drills
  5. Full football activity/clearance

Who are the Eagles playing in playoffs?

The Eagles are scheduled to face the Packers in a rematch of their Week 1 encounter, which took place in Brazil. Philadelphia won that game, 34-29. Green Bay comes into this matchup with several injuries as well, including QB Jordan Love dealing with an elbow issue and WR Christian Watson out for the season.
