Former Georgia QB Carson Beck May Enter Transfer Portal After NFL Draft Declaration
In an unexpected development, Carson Beck, who was previously the quarterback for Georgia’s football team, is rumored to be entering the transfer portal, based on multiple sources.
Beck had declared for the NFL draft on December 28 but now seems to be reconsidering his options. ESPN’s Pete Thamel noted that Miami is currently seen as the leading contender for his signature, though Beck is open to hearing offers from other teams as well.
Thamel mentioned that Beck is likely to make a decision within the week.
The fifth-year senior still has one season of eligibility left but suffered a significant UCL injury that ended his season during Georgia’s SEC championship win against Texas. This led to backup quarterback Gunner Stockton stepping in, who subsequently started in the Bulldogs’ loss to Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl. According to Thamel, Beck’s elbow injury is expected to keep him sidelined until March, when he can start throwing, but he won’t participate in spring practices.
At the start of the season, Beck was anticipated to be a leading candidate for the Heisman Trophy and a top pick in the NFL draft. However, his performance declined compared to the previous year; he completed 290 of 448 passes (64.7%) for 3,485 yards, achieving 28 touchdowns against 12 interceptions, with six interceptions occurring in key wins over Texas and Alabama.
In 2023, Beck had completed 302 of 417 passes (72.4%) for 3,941 yards, with 24 touchdowns and only six interceptions during his first season as a starter. He benefitted from having first-round draft picks Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey on his squad in that season.
Miami seems like a fitting choice for Beck, considering he hails from Jacksonville, Florida, and is currently in a relationship with Miami women’s basketball player Hanna Cavinder, who is popular on social media alongside her twin sister Haley Cavinder.
Although the 6-foot-4 quarterback is not yet listed in the 247Sports rankings, he is expected to rank among the top recruits. The former Georgia QB hopes to reclaim the impressive form he displayed in 2023 during his final season of eligibility.
