Meghan Markle Visits Teen’s Support Group During Los Angeles Fires
Duchess Meghan is actively supporting her hometown of Los Angeles as wildfires continue to wreak havoc.
In a video shared on Instagram, the Altadena Teen Girls Fire Recovery group, which was established by 14-year-old Avery Colvert, captured Meghan’s arrival with bags filled with donations for those affected.
The group began its donation drive on Friday, shortly after devastating wildfires had ravaged large areas of Southern California. The Eaton Fire, one of the major blazes, affected Altadena, a diverse community in Los Angeles County.
In response to the crisis, Colvert, from nearby Pasadena, started the initiative called Altadena Girls on Instagram, as reported by the Los Angeles Times. This initiative aims to collect clothing and beauty items for girls in her age group who have been displaced by the fires.
“I created this to help girls impacted by the Eaton Canyon fire who lost their homes feel like themselves again and regain their confidence,” she shared with the LA Times. “They’ve lost everything, and I want to restore some normalcy in their lives during such chaotic times.”
Meghan’s visit aligns with her and Prince Harry’s ongoing efforts to address the wildfire situation. The couple has opened their home to friends needing refuge from the flames and urged others to extend similar support.
“If someone you know—be it a friend, family member, or pet—needs to evacuate and you can offer them a secure place to stay, please do so,” Harry and Meghan urged in a statement. “Also, reach out to elderly or disabled neighbors who may require assistance with evacuations.”
Additionally, they highlighted various organizations that are providing aid during this crisis, including World Central Kitchen, Baby2Baby, and the Compton Cowboys, led by José Andrés.
“Please think about donating clothing, toys for children, and other vital items,” their statement emphasized while encouraging donations to the American Red Cross.
