Dawn Staley Secures Record-Breaking Contract: South Carolina’s Coach Tops Women’s Basketball Salary Charts

Dawn Staley’s impressive new contract: South Carolina coach becomes highest-paid in women’s basketball

Dawn Staley, the head coach of the South Carolina women’s basketball team, has signed a contract extension that secures her position as the highest-paid coach in women’s basketball, as announced by the university on Friday.

This new deal will keep Staley at South Carolina until the end of the 2029-30 season.

The contract is valued at $25.25 million, featuring a $4 million annual salary, a $500,000 signing bonus, and a $250,000 increase in salary each year.

Currently, the only other women’s coaches earning over $3 million a year are Kim Mulkey from LSU and Geno Auriemma from UConn.

“I’m honored to represent the University of South Carolina and appreciate their commitment to women’s basketball,” Staley stated. “Our accomplishments on the court reflect what can be achieved when we bring together the right team and have the unwavering support from the University, the Athletics Department, and the community to give that team the resources it needs to thrive.”

Since taking charge of the South Carolina program in 2008, Staley, 54, who is a Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductee and a four-time Olympic gold medalist, has significantly impacted women’s basketball.

Under her leadership, the Gamecocks have reached the Final Four six times, including in each of the last four seasons, and have clinched three national championships.

Staley has also guided South Carolina to eight SEC regular season and tournament championships and has been recognized as the Naismith Coach of the Year four times.

This season, the defending national champions are currently ranked No. 2 with a record of 17-1 and a perfect 5-0 in conference games.
