Penguins goalie Alex Nedeljkovic makes history with goal, assist in win vs. Sabres
In an impressive feat, Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Alex Nedeljkovic has become the first goaltender in NHL history to score a goal and provide an assist in the same game.
Prior to this achievement, he had also netted goals in both the ECHL and the American Hockey League.
Just days after the Penguins released Tristan Jarry, Nedeljkovic turned in a stellar performance, making 40 saves during the team’s 5-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres. He contributed an assist on Cody Glass’ goal, which extended the score to 3-1. Later, with just 2:42 left in the game, he skillfully sent the puck from behind his own net down the ice into the Sabres’ empty net.
This was only the second goal scored by a Penguins goalie, following Jarry’s goal on November 30, 2023.
Rickard Rakell, Glass, and Bryan Rust each found the net during power plays, helping the Penguins turn around a 1-0 deficit with three goals in the second period. Anthony Beauvillier also contributed a goal, while Glass and Rust added assists, and Matt Grzelcyk registered two assists as Pittsburgh snapped a three-game losing streak.
