UConn Basketball’s Impressive Home Win Streak Snapped by Creighton

UConn basketball loses to Creighton, ending 28-game winning streak at home

With Selection Sunday still eight weeks away, UConn’s aspiration to secure a third consecutive NCAA men’s basketball title remains very much alive.

However, one notable indicator of the Huskies’ dominance over the last few years has now come to an end.

Led by a career-best performance from guard Jamiya Neal, who scored 24 points, Creighton overcame UConn 68-63 on Saturday at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Connecticut, ending the Huskies’ impressive 28-game home winning streak.

Before this match, head coach Dan Hurley’s team hadn’t experienced a home loss for nearly two years, dating back to January 25, 2023, when they lost to Xavier.

The home winning streak was the second-longest in the history of the program, only surpassed by a 31-game streak that lasted from 2004 to 2007.

UConn had made a comeback from a nine-point deficit with just under seven minutes left, briefly taking the lead with two free throws from Samson Johnson at 3:27 remaining. However, they quickly fell behind again. With the team down by three, Huskies forward Alex Karaban attempted a contested 3-pointer four seconds before the final buzzer, but missed, granting the Bluejays a rare victory at UConn’s home court.

Ryan Kalkbrenner contributed 16 points and Steven Ashworth added 12 for Creighton, while Hassan Diarra and Solo Ball scored 15 points each for UConn.

This loss marks the second defeat for UConn in their last three games, following a narrow two-point loss to Villanova on January 8 that ended an eight-game winning streak. This season, the Huskies have five losses, which is more than they accumulated throughout last season when they finished 37-3 and claimed a second consecutive national title.
