Where’s the Constitution? White House claims website will restore it soon.
WASHINGTON – Following the new administration’s takeover of the White House website this week, significant alterations were made, including the removal of pages that showcased the nation’s foundational documents and reflected the previous government’s perspective.
The homepage now features a silhouette of Trump with the prominent message “AMERICA IS BACK.” New sections highlighting presidential statements and the extensive list of recently signed executive orders have also been added.
However, what stood out to regular users was the absence of pages dedicated to the Constitution and Bill of Rights, information on tourism, initiatives for equity, internship details, and profiles of past presidents from both major political parties.
Error messages replaced the biography pages of notable U.S. presidents like Republicans Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan, as well as Democrats Jimmy Carter, Barack Obama, and Bill Clinton.
Spanish-speaking visitors to the White House site encountered a 404 error, indicating that the page was not available.
The White House clarified that these issues were not intentional and expected them to be resolved soon.
“It’s only day two. We are actively developing, editing, and adjusting the White House website. As we continue this work, some of the archived content has become temporarily inactive. We aim to restore this content shortly,” said principal deputy press secretary Harrison Fields.
The administration is requesting understanding as it enhances the new White House website.
“We are dedicated to restoring the Spanish translation section of the site,” Fields added.
When Trump transitioned into the White House in 2017, his team removed pages relating to LGBTQ+ rights and climate change as they overhauled the site.
An archive of Biden’s previous website is maintained, similar to those of his recent predecessors. A record of Trump’s first term is also preserved.
