Ford Initiates Recall of Over 270,000 Broncos and Mavericks Due to Potential Battery Issues

Ford issues recall for over 270,000 Broncos and Mavericks due to possible battery issues

Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 270,000 vehicles due to a risk of battery failure that could lead to a power loss, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

As indicated in a notice shared with NHTSA on Friday, this recall impacts 272,817 Bronco and Maverick models equipped with 12-volt batteries produced by the Chinese manufacturer, Camel Battery.

These batteries in the affected vehicles might suffer from internal malfunctions, which could result in battery failure while driving. This scenario can lead to the loss of electrically operated features like hazard lights, and may also cause the vehicle to lose power, become unable to restart, or stall after the auto stop/start function activates or when slowly coming to a stop.

Such failures heighten the risk of accidents and injuries. To date, Ford has not reported any instances of accidents, fires, or injuries associated with this battery problem.

Vehicles affected by the Ford recall

  • 2021-2023 Ford Bronco Sport SUVs
  • 2022-2023 Maverick pickup trucks

Steps to take if your vehicle is recalled

Owners of the recalled vehicles should take them to the nearest Ford dealership for a complimentary inspection and battery replacement if needed. Information regarding the recall will be mailed by February 3.
