LG Issues Recall of Approximately 500,000 Ranges Amid Safety Concerns After Reports of Fires and Injuries

LG Recalls Approximately 500,000 Electric Ranges Due to Fire Risk Following Reports of Damage, Injuries, and Pet Fatalities

LG has announced the recall of nearly 500,000 electric ranges following reports of over 28 fires and several pet fatalities, as stated on the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) website.

The CPSC issued the recall on Thursday, February 6, after receiving at least 86 complaints about the ranges being accidentally activated via knobs located on the front.

“The LG ranges involved have caused over 28 fires,” the announcement indicated. “At least five fires resulted in significant property damage amounting to more than $340,000. Reports also include eight minor injuries, such as burns, and three incidents where pets died in fires.”

These products were produced in Mexico and Korea, and imported by LG Electronics USA Inc., based in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. The ranges were available for purchase between 2015 and January 2025, with prices ranging from $1,400 to $2,650.

According to the recall announcement, retailers like Best Buy, Costco, Home Depot, Lowe’s, and other appliance outlets across the country sold these ranges, along with LG’s official website.

The Slide-In and Freestanding Electric Ranges have front-mounted knobs that can be inadvertently activated by users or pets, posing a fire risk.

John I. Taylor, Senior Vice President of LG Electronics USA, said in a statement to YSL News on Friday that this recall is unique compared to other CPSC recalls because “the affected products have a built-in safety feature.”

“In partnership with the CPSC, LG will add more visible labels to remind users to employ the exclusive Control Lock/Lock Out function,” he noted in the statement. “When activated, this innovative feature, found only on LG ranges, prevents the cooktop heating elements from turning on even if the knob is turned.”

Taylor further explained that additional safety measures include a “burner on” indicator light, an alert sound that activates when the knob is turned, and a “hot surface” light.

What Actions Should I Take if I Own a Recalled Model?

Consumers can reach out to LG for a complimentary warning label and instructions on its placement, as stated in the announcement.

This label serves as a reminder for users to activate the Lock Out/Control Lock function on the range control panel, which deactivates the heating elements when the range is not in use.

LG has also created a video to help customers understand how to use this feature at www.vimeo.com/1037322282.

Individuals who own any of these ranges can contact LG at (800) 399-3265, available Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time, or email lgrange.recall@lge.com.

They can also visit https://www.lgecares.com/rangerecall to provide their information and request a free warning sticker along with instructions on placement and use of the control lock feature.

“Consumers should be cautious to keep children and pets away from the knobs, check the range knobs to ensure they are in the off position before leaving home or going to bed, and avoid leaving items on the range when it is not in operation,” as advised in the announcement.
