New Research Shows Plugged Wells and Decreased Injection Rates Diminish Induced Earthquake Occurrences in Oklahoma

Wastewater injection resulting from oil and gas production in Oklahoma caused a dramatic rise in seismic activity in the state between 2009 and 2015. Walmart recalls Great Value Apple Juice due to elevated arsenic levels

If you purchase apple juice from Walmart, it’s a good idea to verify which brand you have before enjoying a glass.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a voluntary recall involving 9,535 eight-ounce bottles of Great Value Apple Juice sold in six-packs (UPC 0-78742-29655-5) at Walmart locations. The recall, numbered F-1746-2024 and issued on August 15, indicates that the juice “contains inorganic arsenic above the allowable levels outlined in industry guidelines.”

As of August 23, this recall has been classified as Class II, which refers to products that might cause temporary or medically reversible health problems, but the likelihood of serious health consequences is considered low.

The FDA warns that “research shows inorganic arsenic poses a greater risk than organic arsenic.” Long-term exposure in adults to inorganic arsenic may lead to skin issues, heightened risk of certain cancers (including skin, bladder, and lung), and cardiovascular ailments.

Short-term exposure to inorganic arsenic can lead to symptoms like nausea, vomiting, bruising, and tingling or burning sensations in the extremities, according to the FDA.

The WHO points out that while inorganic arsenic compounds, commonly found in water, are highly toxic, organic arsenic compounds, typically found in seafood, are generally less harmful.
