Mae Whitman Honors Co-Star with Unique Baby Name

Mae Whitman shares the name of her newborn son inspired by a co-star

Mae Whitman has embarked on her journey into parenthood.

The 36-year-old actress known for “Arrested Development” and “Parenthood” took to Instagram on Wednesday to announce the birth of her first child, a son she named after one of her former co-stars.

“Not to be a Bieber about it but I’ve just welcomed our son, Miles,” she posted on Instagram, humorously alluding to Justin and Hailey Bieber’s recent baby announcement. “From the moment we heard his first adorable sound, we fell in love.”

Whitman explained that she named her son Miles after actor Miles Heizer, her co-star on “Parenthood,” where they portrayed siblings Amber and Drew from 2010 to 2015.

She described her son, like his namesake, as the “kindest, gentlest, smartest, funniest little beebee and he’s our best friend.”

“We are endlessly grateful he chose us as his parents,” she added, thanking the hospital staff for their support during her journey and for helping her family navigate unexpected challenges with care, love, and grace. She also expressed gratitude to her close friends and family for their overwhelming generosity and encouragement.

Whitman had previously announced her pregnancy on Mother’s Day this year with a post featuring herself alongside Heizer and Lauren Graham, who played her mother on “Parenthood.”

“Not to turn this into a ‘Parenthood’ episode or anything but!!! Mother’s Day feels different this year! 🤰🏼” she shared at that time. “Can’t wait to meet you, my giant baby kicking my insides!”

In a June update, Whitman shared that she was eight months along, feeling “big and achy but happy.”

This is Whitman’s first child. Apart from “Parenthood,” she is recognized for her roles as Ann in “Arrested Development,” Annie in “Good Girls,” Roxy in “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” and Bianca in “The DUFF.”
