Dancing with the Stars’ Artem Chigvintsev Faces Legal Troubles Following Domestic Violence Arrest

‘DWTS’ pro dancer Artem Chigvintsev arrested for domestic violence

Artem Chigvintsev, a professional dancer on “Dancing with the Stars,” has been taken into custody in California on charges of felony domestic violence.

The 42-year-old dancer, who is married to Nikki Garcia, a former WWE star known for “Total Bellas,” was arrested around 10 a.m. on Thursday and is currently held at Napa County jail with a bail set at $25,000, as per booking records obtained by YSL News.

Inquiries have been made to representatives of Chigvintsev, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, and the producers of “DWTS” for their statements.

Chigvintsev and Garcia, who danced together on “DWTS” in 2017 and wed in 2022, have a 4-year-old son named Matteo Artemovich. On Wednesday, Garcia shared an Instagram Story showing she was in Napa Valley, where their family resides.

Chigvintsev, who won Season 29 of “DWTS” alongside Kaitlyn Bristowe in 2020 and finished fourth with Charity Lawson in the most recent season, has been part of the ABC dance competition for ten years, except for a break during the 2019 season.

A source close to the matter, who requested to remain anonymous, informed YSL News Thursday that Chigvintsev is not included in the cast for “Dancing with the Stars” Season 33. So far, the only confirmed contestant is Stephen Nedoroscik, an Olympic medalist known from a viral moment this summer.

In 2020, Garcia mentioned that her husband’s exclusion from “DWTS” for a season significantly affected his mental well-being.

She expressed on “The Bellas Podcast” that, “This past year was really tough on him, and it impacted our relationship as well. Artem struggled with depression after being cut from the show, and it was difficult for him to overcome it. He finally found work just before COVID struck, but then that ended, which brought back his feelings of sadness over not being part of ‘Dancing With the Stars.’”

However, when Chigvintsev learned he could return, she noted that he “immediately changed.”

Garcia said, “I felt like I had my old Artem back, the person I fell in love with. His smile was enormous when he performed, and you could see his excitement, passion, and happiness. He was truly delighted to be back.”

If you are experiencing domestic violence, the National Domestic Violence Hotline (thehotline.org) provides confidential support with trained advocates, available online or by phone. They recommend this for those who believe their online activities may be monitored by an abuser (800-799-7233). They can assist survivors in creating a safety plan for themselves and their children.
