Trader Joe’s popular mini tote bags are coming back!
The sought-after mini canvas totes from Trader Joe’s will be back in stores starting September 18.
Trader Joe’s beloved mini canvas tote bags are set to make a comeback very soon.
In March, these tote bags gained viral fame, leading some to resell them online for prices similar to high-end designer handbags.
Shoppers rushed into stores and waited in long lines just to snag one of these bags, which are simply designed and priced at just $2.99, seemingly contradicting the frenzied demand for them. Unsurprisingly, they sold out almost immediately.
Officials at Trader Joe’s assured customers that the bags would be available again by late summer. Now, this promise is being delivered as they return this September.
When will the Trader Joe’s totes be ready for you?
A representative from Trader Joe’s confirmed to YSL News that the colorful bags will hit the shelves on September 18 as a limited-time offer.
The totes, offered in blue, red, green, and yellow, are slightly smaller versions of Trader Joe’s classic canvas bags.
While the exact availability of these totes remains uncertain, due to their immense popularity, it would be wise to act quickly to grab one—or be prepared to pay hundreds when they inevitably appear on resale sites.
Mini totes become a TikTok sensation
The mini totes transformed into a hot item due to social media buzz, prompting eager customers to rush into their local Trader Joe’s stores.
Numerous viral TikTok videos captured the chaos and long lines in stores, where employees had to limit the quantity of bags each customer could purchase.
“These mini canvas tote bags definitely sold out quicker than we expected,” said Nakia Rohde, a Trader Joe’s representative, to YSL News at the time. “By the time we could market them, customers had already discovered them at their local Trader Joe’s across the country.”
Trader Joe’s disapproves of the resale of totes
Some customers took advantage of the demand, reselling their mini totes online for a profit.
On sites like eBay and Facebook, Trader Joe’s mini totes were seen listed for prices as high as $500.
This frenzy led Trader Joe’s to issue a statement on March 2, condemning the practice of reselling their items at inflated prices.
“This reselling occurs without our approval, outside our quality-focused supply chain controls,” the statement said. “We do not support or endorse reselling our products and strive to combat this issue.”
