Colin Gray, the father of Colt Gray, who is accused in the Apalachee High School shooting, submitted a request to a Georgia court on Wednesday. He is asking to be kept apart from other inmates due to the numerous threats against his life, including death threats, as mentioned in documents filed by his legal team.

According to Gray’s lawyers, the “unending stream” of media coverage concerning the incident, which resulted in four fatalities at the high school in Winder, Georgia, has generated strong emotions of anger and a desire for revenge within the community and beyond.

Colin Gray is currently in the Barrow County Jail without bail, and his legal team argues that there are numerous opportunities for other inmates to attack him.

His attorneys expressed concerns, stating, “Many lives in Barrow County have been profoundly affected, making it irresponsible to believe there are no inmates, present or future, who might wish to harm him.”

Colin Gray faces charges of involuntary manslaughter, second-degree murder, and child cruelty due to the allegations against his son. If found guilty, he could become the third parent to be punished for a school shooting conducted by their child, following the parents of Michigan shooter Ethan Crumbley, who received at least ten years in prison in April.

Colt Gray, aged 14, is charged with four counts of felony murder related to the shooting deaths of fellow students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14, and teachers Ricky Aspinwall, 39, and Cristina Irimie, 53. Authorities allege he brought a weapon to school in his backpack and opened fire during the tragic incident on September 4, injuring nine others, including eight students and a teacher.

Brian Hobbs and Jimmy Berry, the attorneys representing Colin Gray, did not promptly respond to YSL News’s request for comments.

Authorities Claim Gray Permitted Son to Have Firearm

The shooting has caused widespread mourning in the quiet community of rural Georgia. As the town faces the most deadly school shooting of the year, anger and uncertainty over how the shooter obtained a firearm have emerged.

Investigators have stated that Colin Gray allowed his son to have access to a gun leading up to the incident. Body camera footage released recently showed law enforcement visiting the Gray residence in May 2023 following a warning from the FBI about a social media account possibly associated with Colt that threatened a school shooting.

During that visit, Colin informed officers that his son could access firearms but claimed he was teaching him about gun safety and had taken him shooting and hunting frequently.

Colin asserted that both he and his son acknowledged the seriousness associated with the prior threats made online. “If he did it, I’ll be so upset, and all the guns will be taken away,” he told the police.

Though authorities had alerted schools about the online threats and advised Colin to keep his son at home, they stated they lacked sufficient grounds for an arrest according to the FBI’s Atlanta division.
