Nicole Kidman Reflects on the Loss of Her Mother Janelle

Nicole Kidman is expressing her feelings following the passing of her mother, Janelle Kidman.

On Thursday, Kidman, aged 54, along with her sister Antonia Kidman, paid tribute to their mother, who passed away at the age of 84, by sharing a collection of Instagram images from their mother’s youth. In one photo, a young Nicole and her sister stand with their mother, while another photo shows the sisters alongside both their parents. Kidman’s father, Antony, passed away in 2014.

“My sister and I, along with our family, want to extend our gratitude for the overwhelming love and support we have received this week,” the siblings wrote in a joint post. “Each message from those who cherished and admired our Mother has deeply touched us beyond words.”

She also expressed appreciation for everyone “respecting our privacy as we care for one another.”

Supporters offered their condolences, including actress Robyn Lively, sister of Blake Lively: “Oh Nicole, I am heartbroken by this. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I can’t even fathom…”

At the Venice Film Festival on Saturday, Kidman received the prestigious Volpi Cup for Best Actress for her performance in the film “Babygirl.” However, during the awards presentation, the film’s director, Halina Reijn, announced that Kidman was unable to attend after learning of her mother’s death shortly after her arrival in Venice.

“I’m in shock and need to be with my family,” read the statement. “But this award is for her. She shaped me, guided me, and made me who I am.”

The “Big Little Lies” star shared, “My heart is shattered.”

In a 2022 interview with NPR’s “Fresh Air,” she mentioned being in Australia to support her mother, who was experiencing health concerns. In August 2020, Kidman posted a photo on Instagram of herself embracing her mother after their first reunion in eight months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a heartfelt birthday message in 2018, she described her mom as someone who “loved me, supported me, and taught me, and I feel so fortunate to have you,” adding in a conversation with People last year that her mother continues to influence her fashion choices.
