Target reintroduces popular car seat trade-in initiative: Here’s how to secure your discount

Customers can receive a 20% discount on selected items when they bring in their old car seats from Sept. 15 to Sept. 28, with redemption available until Oct. 12.

The well-received Target car seat trade-in campaign is returning for two weeks. Participants who trade in outdated car seats or bases will be rewarded with a 20% discount on a new car seat, stroller, or specific baby products.

The trade-in offer kicks off today, Sunday, Sept. 15, and lasts until Saturday, Sept. 28.

To take advantage of the offer, customers must drop off their old car seats in designated collection boxes located near Guest Services at Target stores.

After dropping off, they will need to scan a QR code next to the drop-off area to receive their Target Circle Bonus.

As stated on Target’s website, customers will have until Oct. 12 to use their 20% discount, which can be redeemed on two separate occasions.

Which car seats can be traded in?

Target will accept and recycle a variety of car seats including infant seats, convertible seats, car seat bases, harnesses, and booster seats. They also accept car seats that have expired or suffered damage.

What is done with the traded-in car seats?

The components from old car seats are recycled into pallets, plastic containers, steel beams, and carpeting materials according to the company. This biannual recycling event is part of Target’s goal of achieving zero waste in landfills by 2030.

Since the program began in 2016, Target reports that over 3 million car seats and 45 million pounds of car seat materials have been recycled.

Is every Target store taking part?

All Target stores, except for certain smaller format locations, are participating in the program.

Customers are encouraged to contact their local stores for additional details.
