Unexpected In-Flight Guest: Mouse Makes an Appearance During Scandinavian Airlines Flight

Scandinavian Airlines flight diverted after mouse climbs out of passenger’s meal

Can you imagine discovering an unexpected furry friend on your flight? That situation unfolded on a Scandinavian Airlines journey that needed to reroute after a mouse managed to join the trip to Málaga, Spain from Oslo, Norway.

On Wednesday, the flight on its way to Spain made an unplanned stop in Copenhagen, Denmark after the rodent was spotted.

“We made a standard landing (not an emergency landing, as was incorrectly reported by some media) in Copenhagen to change the aircraft and food service – which is a completely normal procedure when a rodent is found onboard,” explained Alexandra Lindgren Kaoukji, a spokesperson for Scandinavian Airlines, in a statement to YSL News.

Following protocol, the plane was diverted for an “inspection and fumigation” and to transfer the passengers onto a different aircraft, Kaoukji stated.

“In these situations, we have very specific procedures, including thorough inspections of the plane and evaluations of our suppliers’ processes to prevent similar events in the future,” she continued.

After arriving in Denmark, the rodent got to its destination. Passengers experienced a delay of about two-and-a-half hours but ultimately resumed their trip to Spain.

Mouse emerged from a woman’s meal on board

Jarle Borrestad, a passenger on the flight to Málaga, shared details about the mouse’s boarding experience with the BBC.

He recounted that the mouse made an appearance as the woman next to him was opening her meal box during the flight.

Borrestad mentioned that the atmosphere on the flight remained calm, and passengers were “not anxious at all.”

He even lightheartedly posted about the incident on Facebook, complete with laughter emojis.

“Can you believe it? A lady next to me at SAS Plus opened her food, and out jumped a mouse,” he humorously noted. “Now we’ve turned around and landed at CPH for flight changes.”

Despite the unexpected visitor, Borrestad admitted that he pulled his socks over his pants to keep the mouse from climbing up his legs.
