Napheesa Collier Ties WNBA Scoring Record, Leading Lynx to Victory Over Taurasi and the Mercury

Napheesa Collier equals WNBA playoff scoring record as Lynx defeat Diana Taurasi and the Mercury

In what might be the last game of her career, Diana Taurasi fouled out in the closing moments as the Minnesota Lynx triumphed over the Phoenix Mercury 101-88, eliminating them from the WNBA playoffs on Wednesday.

Taurasi scored 10 points, including a pair of three-pointers, and received a warm standing ovation as she left the court with 2:34 remaining in the elimination match. She also incurred a technical foul early in the fourth quarter.

The Mercury made a strong start in the first half but found themselves down 49-47 by halftime against the Lynx. Minnesota had a nine-point lead in the second quarter, but the Mercury fought back, finishing the half with a 10-4 run.

In the third quarter, the Mercury were competitive, even leading by one point at 8:38. However, after Sophie Cunningham committed a Flagrant 1 foul on Bridget Carleton at 7:43, the Lynx fired back with a 12-4 run to regain control.

Napheesa Collier had an incredible performance, scoring 42 points on 14-of-20 shooting and matching the WNBA’s playoff single-game scoring record, leading the Lynx to victory in the final minutes.

Brittney Griner was the top performer for the Mercury, finishing with 24 points and sharing the team lead in rebounds with three other players at five each. The Mercury outperformed the Lynx on the boards, grabbing 31 rebounds to Minnesota’s 25.

Natasha Cloud of Phoenix contributed a double-double with 16 points and 10 assists.

With a regular season record of 19-21, the Mercury reached the playoffs, bouncing back from a last-place finish in the league the previous year.
