Frances Bean Cobain Celebrates the Arrival of Her First Child with Riley Hawk

Frances Bean, daughter of Kurt Cobain, celebrates the birth of her first child with Riley Hawk

Frances Bean Cobain, the daughter of Kurt Cobain, and Riley Hawk, son of the famous skateboarder Tony Hawk, have welcomed their first baby.

The 32-year-old Frances shared the exciting news on Instagram, revealing that she gave birth to a boy with Riley Hawk, who is 31 years old. The child arrived on September 17.

Frances posted several pictures of the newborn, including one where he is cradled by his father. She also shared this moment in her Instagram Story with the John Lennon song “Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)” playing in the background.

“Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk,” she announced. “Welcome to the world, my beautiful son. Our love for you is beyond measure.”

Tony Hawk expressed his joy in an Instagram comment, stating, “My favorite grandson!” Meanwhile, Harper Grohl, daughter of former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, added heart and teary smiley emojis. Frances’ godfather, Michael Stipe from R.E.M., wrote, “With all the love and energy in the world.”

Frances Bean Cobain, a talented artist and model, is the only child of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love. She publicly acknowledged her relationship with Riley Hawk in 2022 when she shared an Instagram post about the immense joy she felt that year, and the couple tied the knot in October 2023. Frances was previously married to musician Isaiah Silva in 2014, but they divorced in 2016.

Riley Hawk also follows in the footsteps of his father, becoming a professional skateboarder.

Kurt Cobain tragically passed away in 1994 when Frances was only 20 months old. In an Instagram post earlier this year, she marked the occasion of his death’s 30th anniversary and reflected on their moments together.

“I wish I could’ve known my Dad,” she wrote then. “I long to know the sound of his voice, his coffee preferences, and how it felt to be tucked into bed after a story. I often wonder if he would have gone catching tadpoles with me during the humid summers in Washington or if he had the scent of Camel Lights & strawberry Nesquik (his favorites, I’ve been told).”

“Yet, I’ve gained profound wisdom from this journey; I now understand exactly how precious life is. His passing taught me a lesson about loss that only comes from actually living through it. The real gift is knowing that when we approach ourselves and those we love with compassion, openness, and kindness, our time on this earth is all the more meaningful.”

She also shared that before she was born, her father wrote her a letter with a touching message: “Wherever you go or wherever I go, I will always be with you.”

“He kept this promise because he remains present in many different ways,” she stated. “Whether it’s through a song I hear or in the way our hands connect, in those moments, I feel a little closer to my dad, and he feels almost tangible.”

In a 2019 interview on the “RuPaul: What’s the Tee?” podcast, Cobain admitted that she struggles with the idea of inheriting wealth from her father.

“My perspective on money is different since I didn’t earn it,” she explained. “It feels like a massive loan that I’ll never pay off. I have a somewhat awkward relationship with it or experience guilt about it because it seems like money from someone I never got to meet, and that I didn’t actually earn.”
