Daniel Day-Lewis Makes a Comeback in Ronan’s Film Debut

Daniel Day-Lewis is back on screen, returning to acting for son Ronan’s film

Daniel Day-Lewis is set to return to acting.

The actor, who won the Oscar for best actor three times and retired unexpectedly in 2017, is making his comeback.

He will star in “Anemone,” a film directed by his son, Ronan Day-Lewis, who is taking on his first directorial role. The film’s screenplay, co-written by them, delves into the complex relationships of fathers, sons, and brothers, exploring familial dynamics, as stated by Focus Features.

At 67, Day-Lewis, recognized for his performances in “My Left Foot” (1990), “There Will Be Blood” (2008), and “Lincoln” (2013), is often regarded as one of the greatest actors of his time.

In 2017, just before he was nominated again for best actor in “Phantom Thread,” Day-Lewis announced his retirement, known for his intense dedication to roles (he requested to be called Abraham Lincoln during “Lincoln”).

“Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be pursuing acting,” his publicist Leslee Dart announced previously. “He is deeply thankful to everyone he has worked with and his audience throughout the years. This choice is personal, and neither he nor his team will comment further on this matter.”

“Phantom Thread,” which focused on the high fashion industry, saw Day-Lewis partner again with director Paul Thomas Anderson, with whom he collaborated on “There Will Be Blood.” His other notable films include “Last of the Mohicans” and “Gangs of New York.”

The announcement did not specify why Day-Lewis chose to return, and it’s uncertain if he will play a major role in “Anemone,” which also features actors Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley, and Safia Oakley-Green.

Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski praised the father-son duo for creating “an outstanding script” and expressed excitement about sharing their vision with audiences, in collaboration with Plan B, the production company founded by Brad Pitt and other industry leaders.

Recently, The New York Post shared images of Day-Lewis riding a motorcycle in Manchester, England, spotted filming during the weekend. Day-Lewis appeared cheerful in various photos, partially concealed by a large motorcycle helmet and notable mutton-chop sideburns.

Day-Lewis was photographed smiling frequently while riding through the city with Bean, who was sitting behind him carrying a large backpack.
