Rich Homie Quan’s Cause of Death Identified


The cause of death for Rich Homie Quan, the Atlanta rapper who passed away last month at 34, has been disclosed.

 

Dequantes Devontay Lamar, known as Quan, died from an accidental drug overdose, as confirmed by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office to YSL News on Wednesday. The cause of death was classified as accidental.

An autopsy report revealed that multiple substances, including fentanyl, alprazolam, codeine, promethazine, and THC, were present in his system. The examination of his body showed no signs of physical trauma.

 

Quan, widely recognized for his breakout track “Type of Way” released in 2013, died on September 5 in an Atlanta hospital, as reported by Rolling Stone and The Associated Press. His family expressed their devastation and heartbreak to TMZ following his passing.

 

According to an incident report obtained by People magazine, Quan was discovered lying on the floor, with food in his mouth, by his brother. He stated to law enforcement that he had moved Quan from the floor to the couch.

A woman, who remains unnamed, called the police later after realizing that Quan’s body felt cold and that he was not breathing, as per People.

 

Rich Homie Quan’s Rise in Hip-Hop After Legal Issues

After spending 15 months in jail for burglary, Quan shifted his focus to a career in hip-hop. He made his musical debut in 2012 with the mixtapes “I Go in on Every Song” and “Still Goin In.”

 

His 2013 single “Type of Way” was his breakthrough into the mainstream. The track became a commercial success, selling 500,000 copies, and featured a remix with artists Meek Mill and Jeezy.

 

The 2015 mixtape “If You Ever Think I Will Stop Goin’ in Ask RR (Royal Rich)” included the hit “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh),” which achieved triple platinum certification.

 

 

In March 2018, Quan released his debut album “Rich as in Spirit” under Motown Records.

“I never imagined I would reach this level with my music,” Quan shared with XXL magazine in 2014. “Initially, music was just a hobby for me. I never envisioned performing on stage. After my release from jail, I began to take it seriously, and that’s when my dreams started to come true.”
