Bruins Sign Goaltender Jeremy Swayman to 8-Year, $66 Million Contract

The Boston Bruins have officially signed restricted free-agent goaltender Jeremy Swayman to an eight-year contract worth $66 million as of Sunday morning.

This agreement follows Swayman’s expression of his desire to “be a Bruin for a long time.” It is also timed just two days before Boston’s season opener against the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Florida Panthers.

“Hello fans, it’s ‘Sway’ here,” Swayman expressed in a video shared by the Bruins on social media. “I’m thrilled to be back. I greatly appreciate all your support through this process. We have many exciting new beginnings ahead, and I can’t wait to get started.”

At 25 years old, Swayman had a season record of 25 wins, 10 losses, and 8 overtime losses, with a goals-against average of 2.53 and a .916 save percentage, while on a one-year, $3.475 million contract decided by an independent arbitrator. He was the sole restricted free agent in the NHL without a contract until now.

Following the June trade that moved Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators, Swayman takes on the role of the Bruins’ primary goaltender.

Swayman holds a career record of 79 wins, 33 losses, and 15 overtime losses, along with a .919 save percentage and a 2.34 goals-against average over four seasons with the team. He shared the William M. Jennings Trophy with Ullmark in the 2022-23 season for allowing the fewest goals scored in the NHL.

In the playoffs last season, he achieved a 6-6 record in 12 games played, posting a .933 save percentage and a 2.15 GAA.
