Freddie Freeman of the Dodgers exits NLDS Game 2 due to ankle pain

Freddie Freeman, the first baseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers, left Sunday’s NLDS game against the San Diego Padres after experiencing discomfort in his right ankle after five innings of play.

Despite having rolled his ankle in a game on September 26 against the Padres, Freeman played in both of the initial games of the series. He was sidelined for the Dodgers’ last three regular-season games.

In the first game of the series on Saturday, the experienced left-handed hitter achieved 2 hits in 5 at-bats, and in Game 2 on Sunday, he went 0-for-2. To fill in for Freeman at first base in the sixth inning, third baseman Max Muncy shifted positions, while Enrique Hernandez took over at third base.

Freeman, now 35 years old, had a batting average of .282, with 22 home runs and 89 RBIs over the course of 147 games this season. With a 15-year career, the former NL MVP of 2020 boasts a .300 lifetime batting average, with 343 home runs and 1,232 RBIs across 2,032 games played for both the Atlanta Braves (2010-21) and the Dodgers (2022-24).
