Dr. Dre Facing Lawsuit from Former Marriage Counselor Over Alleged Harassment and Threats

Reports indicate that Dr. Dre is being sued for harassment by the therapist who acted as his marriage counselor during his divorce.

Dr. Charles Sophy has filed a lawsuit against the music producer for $10 million, claiming that Dre engaged in a “malicious” and “prolonged” campaign of harassment. This reportedly included “intimidation and violence” threats, “homophobic comments,” and late-night text messages, as stated in the lawsuit obtained by Billboard and Rolling Stone.

Dre’s former spouse, Nicole Young, initiated divorce proceedings in 2020 after 24 years together, citing irreconcilable differences. The lawsuit claims that instead of leveraging the mediation as a chance to heal, Dre vented his frustrations on Dr. Sophy, which led to nearly a year of sustained harassment.

YSL News has reached out to Dre’s attorney for remarks.

Dre, known as Andre Young, employed Sophy in 2018 during their negotiations, continuing until their settlement in 2021. However, 14 months later, Sophy claims he started receiving threatening text messages from Dre out of the blue.

The lawsuit includes a text message screenshot where Young allegedly warned the counselor in February 2023 that he heard something “disturbing,” asserting that Sophy would “have to pay for that.”

Additionally, the therapist claims that during the same month, individuals posing as FBI agents attempted to enter his gated community to “talk” with him, but were intercepted by security. This incident made Sophy feel “terrified for his life,” and he resorted to wearing a bulletproof vest for safety, as per the lawsuit.

The reports further highlight other messages where Young allegedly made false claims about the doctor’s conduct and issued threats over several months in 2023.

In one of these supposed texts, Young demanded, “You’re going to have to give me a written apology. If not, I’m moving forward. I’m not joking, trust me,” as reported by Rolling Stone.

Sophy asserts that some of the threats were motivated by his sexual orientation.

He is pursuing legal action for civil harassment and threats of violence linked to his sexual orientation. He has also requested a court order to prevent any further contact and is seeking a trial, according to reports from Rolling Stone.
