Reba McEntire Teams Up with Carole King for ‘Happy’s Place’ Theme Song

Reba McEntire, one of the coaches on “The Voice,” has found a collaborator in the legendary Carole King.

When McEntire needed help penning the theme song for her new NBC sitcom “Happy’s Place,” set to premiere on October 18 (Fridays at 8 EDT/PDT), she reached out to King, the iconic songwriter known for “You’ve Got a Friend,” who is now 82 years old.

“I sent her an email explaining my situation,” McEntire, 69, shared with YSL News. “She responded that she would be happy to assist. It had been about four years since we last met, but we’re good friends.”

The two got together at King’s daughter Sherry Kondor’s home in Los Angeles and spent time creating music together. “I had the intro and the chorus mostly figured out, along with the melody,” McEntire explained. “Then Carole came in, crafted the lyrics and added her own melody. I told her how much I loved my melody and her lyrics, and she suggested we combine them.”

Their collaboration led to the creation of “Happy’s Place,” which was co-written with Doug Sisemore and will be available across all music platforms this Friday. McEntire provides the main vocals for the song, and a segment of their studio recording is accessible here.

In “Happy’s Place,” McEntire portrays Bobbie, a character who inherits a bar from her father and discovers she has a new half-sister and business partner named Isabella (played by Belissa Escobedo).

Kevin Abbott, the executive producer behind the WB sitcom “Reba,” has reunited with McEntire (along with her co-star Melissa Peterman) for “Happy’s Place” and is enthusiastic about their musical collaboration.

“I adored Reba’s rendition of ‘I’m a Survivor’; that theme song truly encapsulated ‘Reba’,” Abbott remarked. “This new theme song will perfectly represent ‘Happy’s Place.’

Previously, McEntire impressively covered King’s song “So Far Away” in a Season 2 episode of “Reba.” The two artists also worked together on a cover of “Everyday People” for McEntire’s hit 2007 album “Reba Duets.”
