Sold! How much did Sammy Hagar’s custom Ferrari LaFerrari fetch at the Arizona auction?
Sammy Hagar has shown once again that there’s truly just one way to rock the world.
His formula: enjoy life while respecting its limits, keep substance use to a minimum, immerse fully in rock music, and most importantly, make wise financial moves.
His latest victory? Auctioning off his beloved 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari at the prestigious Barrett-Jackson event in Scottsdale, Arizona, this past Saturday.
Hagar purchased the supercar, stunningly customized in an exclusive creamy cappuccino hue, directly from Ferrari for roughly $1.4 million. He recently handed the car over to its new owner for an impressive $4.25 million. Quite an impressive profit! The identity of the buyer was not disclosed at the time of reporting, which is common in high-end vehicle transactions.
“To be honest, being part of the bidding process was quite tiring,” Hagar shared with YSL News after the auction. “I kept wondering whether this was the right choice. There was this feeling of seller’s remorse. When the gavel hit the table and they announced ‘Sold!,’ I was caught between being heartbroken and feeling relieved. What an experience that was.”
Hagar made the trip to Arizona from his beloved Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, where he often performs. Right after the auction, he boarded his jet, which shares a similar color scheme to the LaFerrari, rushing back to Cabo to celebrate his annual birthday bash. Hagar turned 77 on October 13.
Despite his hectic travel schedule lately, Hagar felt the journey to Arizona was worth it.
“I felt so good after meeting the new owner of my car,” Hagar expressed. “He was a really cool guy, appreciating the car in the same way I did. We’re just custodians of something special, and then we hand it over to the next caretaker. It’s all about finding someone who will honor and maintain the legacy of such a perfect vehicle.”
Craig Jackson, the CEO of Barrett-Jackson, said he was “honored and thrilled to have sold my friend Sammy Hagar’s exquisite LaFerrari. We were confident it would find a great new home. Sammy and the new owner connected after the sale, and it just felt right. We placed the LaFerrari with a fantastic caretaker.”
Hagar’s LaFerrari fetched a sale price far above the other vehicles auctioned at Barrett-Jackson that day, including a 2019 Ford GT for $880,000, a 1971 Ferrari GTB/4 Daytona Coupe for $506,000, and a 2023 Rolls Royce Cullinan Mansory Edition SUV for $396,000.
While most Ferraris are famously red, Hagar’s model stands out with its unique color inspired by his private jet. When he and his wife Kari visited the famous factory in Maranello, Italy, it was this jet that influenced their custom LaFerrari design.
Hagar’s vehicle features several personal touches. Along with the cappuccino-inspired exterior, the carbon fiber steering wheel is engraved with his initials and birth date. A firm believer in numerology, Hagar was thrilled with the way everything lined up for the sale.
“I received the car on my birthday, October 13, 2016, and the steering wheel has a small plaque reading ‘SH1013.’ After the sale, I’ll celebrate my birthday, knowing that the lucky new owner of this stunning LaFerrari will be just as happy. By the way, I’m a Libra!”
Though the millions made from the LaFerrari are impressive, they are overshadowed by some of Hagar’s more substantial business achievements throughout his career. His most significant success remains the $100 million sale of Cabo Wabo tequila to Gruppo Campari a decade ago. Since then, he has launched another liquor brand, Santo Tequila, in partnership with celebrity chef Guy Fieri, and more recently, founded the Red Rocker Brewing Company.
It’s uncertain what Hagar will do with his recent financial gains, but the musician recently made headlines while being honored with the key to the city of Las Vegas.
“I have some exciting plans: the Cabo Wabo Resort and Casino,” Hagar announced while in Las Vegas for the event and a concert (his Cabo Wabo Cantina has been a staple on the Strip for years). “I genuinely intend to move forward with this, and this is the city where I wish to do it. If not here, I’ll look elsewhere. Everyone, support me on this!”
Throughout the summer, Hagar and his band, The Circle, have been touring, and he is set to perform solo at the upcoming Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. He will share the stage with Chad Smith, Slash, and Demi Lovato to honor Foreigner, the 2024 inductees.
