Unexpected Encounter: South Carolina Woman Discovers Python Hiding Behind Her Toilet

South Carolina woman startled by python hiding behind her toilet

A woman in South Carolina had quite the shock earlier this month when she stumbled upon an uninvited visitor in her bathroom.

At around 5 a.m. on Nov. 5, she turned on the bathroom light in her Columbia apartment and was greeted by a ball python lurking behind the toilet.

Startled, she screamed and quickly called a friend for assistance, as noted in the incident report obtained by YSL News on Wednesday. Together, they contacted the police, and the deputies managed to capture the python and remove it from the bathroom using a pillowcase.

Luckily, neither the woman nor the snake was harmed during the removal.

Python finds new home, deputies report

Later that day, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department shared the encounter on Facebook, detailing the incident and posting photos.

In their post, they said, “Deputies and snake wranglers?! Our RCSD deputies got called to handle a snake in a bathroom! Understandably, the resident was eager to flee her apartment and even asked for a police report.”

Master Deputy Shannon Huffman arrived on the scene, fully prepared to address the situation safely, as detailed in the sheriff’s department’s post.

“We were able to provide a quick solution for the resident while also protecting the snake,” Master Deputy Alexandra Salrin told The State. “This was certainly an unusual case for us.”

It remains unclear how the snake made its way into the woman’s apartment, but authorities believe it may have been a pet that escaped from a nearby unit, according to The State.

Another deputy from the department took the python in, as no one has come forward to claim the snake, Salrin told The State.
