J Balvin Honored with the Spirit of Hope Award at Billboard Latin Music Awards

J Balvin awarded Spirit of Hope at Billboard Latin Music Awards

J Balvin is committed to supporting “Mi Gente.”

The Grammy-nominated reggaeton artist was honored with the Spirit of Hope Award during the Billboard Latin Music Awards held on Sunday. After receiving the award from Maluma on stage, he stated, “I’ve always enjoyed helping my people discreetly because those are the recognitions that stay with you for a lifetime. These awards come and go, but the true awards of the soul, like helping a friend and serving others, are the most valuable.”

He was recognized specifically for his Vibra en Alta Foundation, which aims to enhance youth development and education in Colombia through various arts-focused programs.

Balvin dedicated this honor to his partner Valentina Ferrer and their son Río.

“Our goal at the Vibra En Alta Foundation is to find ways to boost the dreams and aspirations of others, including children, single mothers, and abuse survivors. We strive to uplift their spirits so they can forge their paths,” he said.

He further mentioned, “As a family man now, I feel compelled to tackle the difficult issue of child trafficking. It’s a topic that many avoid discussing, and I’ve been advised to proceed cautiously. However, I prefer to take risks for the sake of our children and families instead of remaining silent.”

Last year, the Spirit of Hope Award was presented to the Colombian pop singer Karol G.

Earlier that night, J Balvin energized the audience in Miami Beach, Florida, with a vibrant rendition of “Cosa de Locos,” a track from his recent album “Rayo.” The awards show also featured performances by Grupo Niche, Pepe Aguilar, Gloria Trevi, Maria Becerra, Xavi, Chencho Corleone, Prince Royce, Gabito Ballesteros, among others.

Balvin’s foundation collaborated with Corporación Hogar to create a service center in his hometown of Medellín, which has positively impacted 500 children and teenagers. Additionally, Vibra en Alta has established the Tarima Arte Vivo stage to promote emerging talent and launched the El Balcón de Los Artistas dance school in Manrique.

“I’m immensely thankful and deeply honored to receive such a meaningful award,” Balvin expressed in a statement prior to the ceremony. “It holds great significance for me, not only as the artist I am now but also as that young dreamer I was back then and still am today. It’s crucial to support and guide the upcoming generation in realizing their dreams.

“I take pride in helping the youth and the new wave pursue their passions through the Vibra en Alta Foundation, turning their dreams into reality.”

This award comes shortly after the release of Balvin’s sixth album, “Rayo,” in August. The LP, featuring 15 songs and collaborations with artists like Feid, Carín León, and Chencho Corleone, reached No. 5 on Billboard’s Latin Rhythm Albums chart, with “Polvo de Tu Vida” topping the charts as his No. 1 hit with Corleone.

Recently, Balvin finished the Australian and New Zealand leg of his tour, “Que Bueno Volver a Verte,” which also took him through Europe earlier this year.
