Magic’s Jalen Suggs and Rockets’ Jalen Green secure lucrative rookie contract extensions

On Monday, two promising NBA players signed lucrative contract extensions, just ahead of the 2024-25 season start.

Orlando Magic’s guard Jalen Suggs and Houston Rockets’ guard Jalen Green have both secured extensions with their teams. While Orlando announced Suggs’ extension without revealing the financial details, ESPN reported it to be a five-year, $150.5 million rookie contract. Green’s representatives confirmed that he signed a three-year, $106 million rookie contract extension.

Both players were chosen in the 2021 NBA draft—Green as the second overall pick and Suggs as the fifth—and both had strong seasons last year.

Last season, Suggs played a career-high 75 games, scoring an average of 12.6 points per game. He improved his offensive skills while establishing himself as a defensive standout for the Magic, recording 1.4 steals per game, which ranked in the top 10 in the league. He was also selected to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team and successfully made 39.7% of his three-point shots. In the playoffs, he had a standout performance with a career-high 24 points in Game 3 of the first-round series against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Green had a remarkable season, starting every game for the Rockets during the 2023-24 season, joining a select group of 17 players who did not miss any games. He averaged 19.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per game and showed improved shooting consistency as the season progressed, helping a team that narrowly missed a spot in the play-in tournament.
