Paula Abdul Responds to Nigel Lythgoe’s Skepticism Over Her Sexual Assault Allegations

Paula Abdul criticizes Nigel Lythgoe for questioning her sexual assault allegations

Paula Abdul is taking a stand against Nigel Lythgoe for expressing skepticism about her accusations of sexual assault against him.

Recently, court documents from October 15 revealed that the former judge of “So You Think You Can Dance,” Lythgoe, responded to Abdul’s lawsuit, which she filed last December. His legal response included text messages and private emails from Abdul as shared by Lythgoe’s lawyers.

In a statement to YSL News, Abdul’s legal team announced their intention to take action against Lythgoe’s recent filing.

“Mr. Lythgoe’s attempt to undermine Ms. Abdul’s credibility within this lawsuit is not just an unsuccessful effort to tarnish her strong reputation but is entirely inappropriate. Ms. Abdul plans to request that Mr. Lythgoe’s filing be removed from the official record,” the statement indicated.

YSL News has reached out for a comment from Lythgoe’s representative.

Nigel Lythgoe’s attorneys allege Paula Abdul made ‘false accusations’

The documents filed by Lythgoe on October 15 included various alleged text messages and emails purportedly from Abdul, in which she appears to express affection and appreciation for Lythgoe, referring to him as “sweetheart.”

One email presented read: “Hi Nigel, Thank you for the gorgeous flowers — they were absolutely beautiful! But I must say the highlight was the birthday card from last night. I am still laughing!”

“I also wanted to share how happy I was to have you and Andrea celebrate my special day! I know you had prior commitments, and I genuinely appreciated you rearranging your schedule for me,” the email continued. “I am truly grateful for our friendship and excited about starting our project together. Hugs, Paula.”

In another email from 2015, Abdul expressed that she was “happy” and “thrilled” for Lythgoe, saying, “Way to go, sweetheart! You absolutely deserve it,” and closing with, “I love your guts!!! hugs P.”

Lythgoe’s lawyers have asserted that Abdul’s “strategic campaign of lies through grotesque and defamatory statements was specifically designed to manipulate the current social climate against him,” claiming she made “false allegations from over two decades ago while exploiting the very individuals the system aims to protect.”

They further claimed, “Abdul has misused the legal process to serve her own selfish interests,” and also raised questions about the chronology of the alleged events.

Lythgoe’s legal team also mentioned Abdul’s supposedly “erratic and unpredictable” behavior while judging on Fox’s “American Idol,” a show produced by Lythgoe. They alleged that she exhibited slurred speech, was often incomprehensible, drooling, and on two occasions, had to be carried out from audition rooms due to fainting.

This legal filing came after the “Straight Up” singer, 62, accused Lythgoe of sexually assaulting her multiple times, including an incident where he allegedly “pushed Abdul against a wall, grabbed her breasts and genitals, and forcefully kissed her.”

In January, Lythgoe resigned as a judge on “So You Think You Can Dance” following two sexual assault lawsuits, one of which was filed by Abdul.

Paula Abdul accuses Nigel Lythgoe of repeated sexual assault

In her lawsuit filed last winter in Los Angeles, Abdul alleged that Lythgoe sexually assaulted her during an “initial season” of “American Idol” and again in 2014 when she was hosting “SYTYCD.”

Abdul was a judge on “American Idol” for eight seasons starting in 2002.

After the allegations surfaced, Lythgoe expressed that he was “shocked and saddened” by Abdul’s accusations and denied them vehemently.

“These allegations are not only false but incredibly offensive to me and everything I represent,” Lythgoe expressed. “While Paula’s known history of unpredictable behavior is evident, I don’t understand why she would file a lawsuit that she must know is false. I will fight to defend myself against this outrageous slander with my full effort.”
