A Department of Transportation camera recorded the moment a suspected drunk driver nearly collided with Vice President Kamala Harris’ motorcade on Monday.

According to James Burnett, a spokesperson for the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, the driver was heading west in an eastbound lane on Interstate 94, coming towards Harris’ motorcade.
Deputies apprehended the 55-year-old driver of the SUV near 16th Street. They discovered an open container of alcohol and conducted field sobriety tests before arresting him on charges of operating while intoxicated and recklessly endangering safety, the spokesperson reported.
This incident was recorded on a Department of Transportation camera, showing the driver passing by Harris’ motorcade, which was accompanied by a long stream of vehicles with police lights:
As of Tuesday, the suspect was still in custody at the Milwaukee County Jail. It is currently unknown whether he has been granted bail or released.
Joe Biesk, a spokesperson for the U.S. Secret Service, acknowledged the incident in a statement on Tuesday evening. “We appreciate the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office for their quick action that enabled them to stop the motorist and take the driver into custody,” the statement read.
The Vice President, who is also the Democratic presidential candidate, was in the area campaigning in Waukesha County, with less than two weeks remaining until Election Day.
