On Saturday, Hurricane Kristy downgraded to a Category 1 storm and is anticipated to transition into a post-tropical cyclone, losing organization as it travels across the Pacific Ocean on Sunday, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

As of Saturday morning, the NHC reported that Kristy was located more than 1,000 miles away from the southern end of Baja California, moving northwest at about 15 mph.

Currently, Kristy has maximum sustained winds of 75 mph, with stronger gusts, the NHC noted.

Experts continue to keep an eye on the storm as it diminishes. The NHC also mentioned that large swells caused by Kristy are impacting parts of the west coast of the Baja California peninsula, and this situation is likely to persist through the weekend. These swells are expected to create “dangerous surf and rip current conditions,” the agency warned.

At this time, there are no coastal watches or warnings issued, according to the NHC.
