Penalties Issued for Bubba Wallace, Austin Dillon, and Ross Chastain After Martinsville Race

NASCAR imposed a fine of $100,000 and a deduction of 50 driver points to Bubba Wallace, Austin Dillon, and Ross Chastain for breaking conduct rules during the race at Martinsville Speedway last Sunday.

Following an investigation into the closing laps of the race, NASCAR determined that the three drivers breached sections 4.4.B&D of the Rule Book, which pertain to actions harmful to stock car racing and race manipulation.

The owners of the teams—23XI Racing (Wallace), Richard Childress Racing (Dillon), and Trackhouse Racing (Chastain)—were also fined $100,000 and faced a loss of 50 owner points.

Additionally, the crew chiefs, spotters, and team leaders from each racing team will be sidelined during the season finale at Phoenix Raceway next year due to these infractions.

All three teams have indicated they plan to appeal the penalties.

NASCAR’s senior vice president of competition, Elton Sawyer, noted, “We reviewed the latest penalties imposed for similar infractions, specifically that of the 41 car at the Roval a few years back, and decided to escalate this one. We felt it was crucial to involve team leadership. We aim to emphasize that upholding the integrity of our sport is a joint responsibility among team owners, team leaders, and NASCAR itself.”
