Co-hosts of “The View” are standing up for Nicole Scherzinger, who faced misunderstandings regarding a social media post that seemed to indicate she was supporting Donald Trump.

On Monday, the hosts of the ABC talk show defended Scherzinger after the pop star received backlash for her comment on an Election Day post by comedian Russell Brand.

“Emotions are extremely heightened,” co-host Ana Navarro noted. “It’s excessive. Everyone seems to be losing their sanity. Social media has become a tough space to navigate. You could post a photo of puppies and still get bombarded with negativity.”

Last Tuesday, Brand shared a picture of himself on Instagram wearing a red hat that said “Make Jesus First Again.” The slogan and color were a twist on Trump’s famous campaign phrase, “Make America Great Again.”

Scherzinger excitedly commented on Brand’s post, asking, “Where do I get this hat?” but later deleted her statement. This led to immediate criticism online, with many interpreting it as an endorsement for Trump.

“People are calling for her to be disqualified for a Tony. This has spiraled out of control,” remarked co-host Sara Haines, while Sunny Hostin expressed that “this is truly absurd.”

Scherzinger reportedly addressed the issue in an Instagram Stories post on Friday, as noted by Variety and Entertainment Weekly. The former Pussycat Dolls singer apologized for “the pain caused by my recent interactions with certain social media posts.”

“When I made comments on these posts, I failed to realize they might be interpreted as politically charged, and I apologize to those who understandably came to that conclusion,” Scherzinger stated, according to the outlets.

During the Monday segment, Navarro argued that Scherzinger “shouldn’t have had to apologize” for her online engagement, noting, “If you can’t handle the backlash, maybe you shouldn’t be on social media, as people can be incredibly extreme.”

In her Friday apology, Scherzinger explained that she thought the posts she engaged with were about promoting love and faith — “putting Jesus first.” She reiterated that Christ represents peace, compassion, hope, and above all — unconditional love, particularly for those who feel overlooked.

“A lot of assumptions are being made that do not align with who I am or what I believe in, or who I voted for,” Scherzinger added, as reported by Variety and Entertainment Weekly. “Many marginalized communities who are hurting and anxious about the election’s outcome are the ones I care about the most. I have always stood with them throughout my life and career.”

Trump’s victory in the 2024 presidential election has prompted significant concern among disillusioned voters, particularly among women and the transgender community, due to his positions on critical issues like abortion and transgender rights.

Scherzinger concluded her statement, saying she “will always uphold values that unite us.”

“I come from a place of love,” Scherzinger expressed. “It’s crucial that we show more compassion and love for one another during these times.”
