JetBlue Flight Survives Gunfire Encounter in Haiti, Lands Safely in New York

A JetBlue Flight from Haiti to New York Reportedly Hit by Gunfire, Landed Safely

On Monday, a JetBlue flight traveling from Haiti to New York was reportedly hit by gunfire. Fortunately, there were no injuries, and the flight proceeded as scheduled, but JetBlue is looking into the event.

“On November 11, JetBlue flight 935 took off from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and arrived safely at JFK Airport in New York. Initially, the crew did not report any problems, but after the flight, an inspection revealed that the airplane had sustained a bullet strike on its outer surface. We are currently working with the appropriate authorities to investigate this matter,” stated the airline in a message to YSL News.

JetBlue has canceled flights to and from Haiti until December 2 and continues to keep an eye on the situation. They have also waived change fees for passengers whose travel plans may be impacted.

Haiti has been experiencing significant civil unrest for several months, prompting the U.S. State Department to issue a “Do Not Travel” advisory for Americans considering visiting Haiti in September, an advisory that is still active.

A Spirit Airlines flight also reported being hit by gunfire while trying to land at Port-au-Prince that same Monday. It had to divert to the Dominican Republic, and one crew member suffered injuries during the incident. Spirit Airlines has announced a waiver for change fees for passengers traveling to Haiti, as has American Airlines, the other U.S. airline offering service to that destination.
