Officials have reported an explosion that took place Thursday afternoon at a business in Louisville, Kentucky.

Donovan Sims, spokesperson for the Louisville Division of Fire, confirmed the explosion to the Louisville Courier Journal, a part of the YSL News Network.

Authorities have advised the public to avoid the area in the Clifton neighborhood while investigations are ongoing. A shelter-in-place order has been issued within a 1-mile radius of the explosion site, as announced by Louisville Metro Emergency Services.

Louisville Metro Police’s Fifth Division has restricted access to the roads close to where the incident occurred, according to their social media updates. Additionally, agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are providing support.

Authorities label the explosion as a ‘hazardous materials incident’

The public safety office categorized the incident as a “hazardous materials incident” on social media platform X.

Students at Breckinridge-Franklin Elementary, situated 0.8 miles from the explosion site, were instructed to shelter in place on Tuesday afternoon.
