College football bowl predictions: CFP updates give Alabama a bye, Colorado makes the playoff
Typically, a game against Mercer wouldn’t influence playoff rankings. However, recent bowl predictions show Alabama jumping to the No. 2 position, predicted to be the SEC champions.
The team Alabama bumps down is Texas. Despite the Longhorns winning against Arkansas, there are doubts about their ability to beat both Texas A&M and Alabama on the road to clinch the conference title. Additionally, Texas lacks significant victories, which puts them behind contenders like Georgia and Mississippi in the rankings.
In other notable news, Colorado has entered the College Football Playoff picture as the Big 12 champions. The Buffaloes are currently the most formidable team in their league and need just two more wins to secure a place in the title game. Meanwhile, BYU has dropped out of contention entirely, facing slim chances for an at-large bid unless they win every remaining game.
As we approach the final two weeks leading up to championship weekend, there are likely to be some surprises. The upcoming Ohio State vs. Indiana matchup in the Big Ten could clarify that conference’s standings, while the SEC will remain uncertain until the results of Week 14. The ACC and Big 12 also have unresolved outcomes that need to be determined. However, it seems several at-large spots are almost secured unless there are significant upsets.
Note: Historical Pac-12 teams in different conferences will continue to meet current Pac-12 bowl commitments until the 2025 season.
