Hakeem Jeffries Slams Thanksgiving Day Threats Aimed at House Democrats
WASHINGTON – On Friday, House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., strongly denounced threats made against Democratic representatives on Thanksgiving Day. These threats included alarming mentions of a “pipe bomb” placed in mailboxes and incidences of “swatting.”
Several Democrats from Connecticut, including Reps. Jahana Hayes, Jim Himes, and Joe Courtney, were specifically targeted with bomb threats at their residences on Thursday.
“Thanks to the rapid response of law enforcement, no explosives were located, and Members of Congress along with their families were kept secure during the holiday,” Jeffries stated.
Jeffries noted that the threats targeting these Democrats were marked with “MAGA,” reflecting the slogan from President-elect Donald Trump’s campaign.
These threats occurred shortly after several nominees for Trump’s cabinet were also subjected to similar bomb threats.
“America is a democracy. It is totally unacceptable and morally reprehensible to threaten violence against elected officials. Political violence, regardless of the party affiliation, must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Jeffries asserted.
