Bill Self equals Phog Allen’s record for most wins at Kansas as No. 1 Jayhawks defeat No. 10 UNC
LAWRENCE, Kan. — On Friday, Kansas men’s basketball head coach Bill Self marked another milestone in his career as the Jayhawks triumphed 92-89 over No. 10 North Carolina.
With this victory, Self reached a total of 590 wins at Kansas, tying him with Phog Allen, who led the Jayhawks for over 30 years, making them the top two winningest coaches in the program’s history.
In a pre-game discussion with reporters on Thursday, Self acknowledged the importance of this achievement but largely focused on Allen’s impressive legacy at Kansas.
Self described Allen as the finest coach in Kansas history, expressing that he would always hold this view regardless of future achievements. He emphasized that the foundation he has benefited from at Kansas is a direct result of Allen’s efforts.
Self also took a moment to commend the players and coaching staff who have supported him throughout his career, noting that reaching this milestone reflects his longevity in the sport.
