Updated College Football Playoff bracket after latest rankings

In just one week, the first College Football Playoff rankings have undergone a major shake-up.

Shortly after the selection committee released the rankings for the season, Georgia faced a surprising defeat against Mississippi, while Miami lost to Georgia Tech for their first defeat. Consequently, the projected top 12 teams eligible for the newly expanded College Football Playoff have seen significant changes in the second set of rankings. This weekā€™s rankings illustrate how the automatic byes for conference champions influenced seeding and which teams might need to play away in the first round.

So, what does the playoff picture look like right now? Here’s the current bracket as we enter Week 12.

Understanding the College Football Playoff format

This week’s rankings have been particularly tough on Georgia. Although the Bulldogs currently sit at No. 12, they are not projected to make the playoff, as Boise State has secured the fifth conference champion spot, granting them an automatic entry.

Meanwhile, Miami retains a first-round bye since they are leading the ACC, despite their recent loss. Big Ten teams like Ohio State, Penn State, and Indiana are also affected by these rankings due to Miami and BYU securing first-round byes.
