Halle Berry shares her 10 injuries from action films: ‘I’ve been knocked out 3 times’
Although Halle Berry shines as an action movie star, it certainly comes with challenges.
The actress known for roles in “X-Men” and “Catwoman” opened up about the 10 broken bones and various injuries she’s sustained while filming action movies, especially while promoting her upcoming Netflix film “The Union,” alongside Mark Wahlberg.
“I’ve been knocked out three times, had an arm fracture, broke my ribs twice — once two ribs, and another time three ribs — fractured my tailbone, two toes, and this finger,” Berry shared humorously, lifting her middle finger in a playful gesture in a clip released by Netflix.
During the chat, Berry and Wahlberg exchanged stories about their injuries, with Wahlberg recalling he had torn a meniscus, separated his shoulder, and endured numerous bruised egos.
While Berry has had more injuries, Wahlberg has spent more time underneath water. She held her breath for almost two and a half minutes while filming 2012’s “Dark Tide,” whereas he endured ten minutes submerged for 2000’s “The Perfect Storm.”
“We were in the tank, and there were waves. There were guys underwater holding my feet to keep me in place, and they couldn’t tell where I was relative to the waves,” he explained. “I was struggling to breathe and the water kept crashing over my head. I was trying to deliver my lines while keeping a tear in my eye. It was not enjoyable.”
The seasoned actors also talked about the skills they’ve mastered throughout their careers. Berry mentioned she has trained in jiu-jitsu, muay thai, kickboxing, Taekwondo, and shooting, along with capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial art, specifically for “Catwoman.” On the other hand, Wahlberg took lessons in crocheting and ballet and tango dancing for his role in the 2010 action comedy “The Other Guys.”
Berry reminisced about her time spent on wires portraying Storm in the “X-Men” franchise. “It felt like I was up there for a very long time because Storm was often flying on a wire,” she recounted. “At one point, it seemed like the crew member had gone on their break. That’s how long I was hanging there.”
In “The Union,” which becomes available for streaming on Friday, Berry portrays Roxanne, a U.S. intelligence agent who enlists her high-school sweetheart, a construction worker named Mike (played by Wahlberg), for a mission.
