MLB Winter Meetings Updates: Latest News from Day 3 in Dallas
Welcome to Day 3 of Major League Baseball’s Winter Meetings in Dallas!
Tuesday saw significant developments; will we see more action today?
The highlight of Day 2 was Max Fried finalizing a historic $218 million contract with the New York Yankees, marking the largest deal ever for a left-handed pitcher. Following that, the Texas Rangers reached an agreement with Nathan Eovaldi for a three-year, $75 million contract, bringing back the playoff hero.
Top free agents still available include right-handed pitcher Corbin Burnes, third baseman Alex Bregman, and first baseman Pete Alonso.
Stay tuned for exciting updates, rumors, and trades throughout Day 3:
Yankees Interested in Christian Walker
Following the exit of Juan Soto from the scene, the New York Yankees are now looking at free agent first baseman Christian Walker. Turning 34 in March, Walker is known for his stellar defense, having won three consecutive Gold Glove awards in the NL, and boasts a powerful bat. In the last three seasons, Walker hit 95 home runs and achieved a 123 OPS-plus, competing closely with New York Mets’ first baseman Pete Alonso, who has 120 home runs and a 131 OPS-plus. Walker has played with the Arizona Diamondbacks for the past eight seasons.
Rangers Acquire Power Hitter in Trade with Marlins
Late Tuesday night, the Texas Rangers finalized a trade to obtain infielder Jake Burger from the Miami Marlins. In exchange, the Marlins received infield prospects Echedry Vargas, Max Acosta, and pitching prospect Brayan Mendoza. Burger, who will be under contract for the next four seasons, enhances the Rangers’ lineup as a strong hitter, either as a corner infielder or potentially as a designated hitter. Last season, Burger hit 29 home runs and had 76 RBIs, following a breakout 2023 season where he hit 34 homers.
