The Jets Reject Haason Reddick’s Trade Demands During His Holdout
Haason Reddick has requested a trade from the New York Jets. However, the team has firmly stated that they do not plan to accommodate the unhappy pass rusher amid his holdout for a long-term deal.
According to Jets general manager Joe Douglas, the organization is unwilling to fulfill Reddick’s trade request just four months after acquiring him from the Philadelphia Eagles, where he was a two-time Pro Bowl player.
In the deal for Reddick, the Jets transferred a conditional third-round pick for 2026, which could escalate to a second-round pick.
“We have communicated to Haason that we will not be trading him, and he is expected to rejoin his teammates. If he fails to report, he will continue to incur fines per the collective bargaining agreement,” stated Douglas. “Since we initially discussed trades in March, our stance has been clear and consistent. Our priority is to focus on the players we have as we gear up for the regular season.”
At 29 years old, Reddick has established himself as one of the NFL’s leading edge rushers, racking up 27 sacks over the past two seasons with the Eagles. He is now facing fines that exceed $1 million from the Jets due to his absence from training camp. Reddick’s base salary for the current season stands at $14.25 million.
The Jets had high hopes for Reddick to significantly impact their defense, especially after losing Bryce Huff, who topped the team with 10 sacks in 2023, to the Eagles through free agency. Furthermore, the team recently traded veteran defensive end John Franklin-Myers to the Denver Broncos in late April.
