Detroit Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs exits practice due to hamstring injury

Every NFL training camp brings the worry of possible injuries, and Detroit Lions supporters are currently feeling anxious.

Second-year running back Jahmyr Gibbs left the Lions’ practice on Monday afternoon due to a leg injury as reported by the team. He participated in drills with both the running backs and wide receivers before leaving just before team exercises. According to ESPN, he is being examined for a hamstring injury.

Gibbs, selected as the 12th overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft by the Lions, had a significant impact during his rookie season.

He has had previous problems with hamstring injuries, having missed time in October of last year because of it.

After a slow start, Gibbs found his pace later in the season, finishing with 945 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns. Additionally, the multi-talented running back contributed 316 receiving yards and a touchdown and spent much of the training camp enhancing his pass-catching skills alongside the wide receivers.

Injuries hit Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw Jr. as well

The Lions focused on their primary need, cornerback, with their first two selections in the 2024 NFL draft, bringing in Terrion Arnold from Alabama with their first pick and Ennis Rakestraw Jr. with their second.

During practice on Monday, both players also had to leave due to injuries.

Arnold sustained an upper-body injury, while Rakestraw was assessed for an ankle injury. Rakestraw exited early in the team drills, limping slightly, and Arnold left during one-on-one tackling drills after a drill with Amon-Ra St. Brown.

Both Arnold and Rakestraw made their first on-field appearance with the Lions in their preseason matchup against the New York Giants, with Arnold on the field for a few snaps and Rakestraw playing more but still leaving early.
