Joan Accepts the ‘Golden Bachelorette’ Finale Proposal on the Beach. Who Did She Choose?
After meeting 24 senior contestants, Joan Vassos has chosen her partner on “The Golden Bachelorette.”
Even more exciting, the lovely widow from Maryland received a romantic proposal on one knee on the stunning beaches of Bora Bora during Wednesday’s finale.
Following the emotional events of the Nov. 6 Fantasy Suites episode, it came down to two contenders for the 61-year-old bachelorette − Guy, 66, an emergency doctor from Reno, Nevada, and Chock, 60, an insurance executive hailing from Wichita, Kansas.
“Every ‘Bachelor’ finale has a twist,” Joan shared with YSL News before the big reveal. “There are many tears and emotions. But in the end, there are joyful tears as well.”
So, who did she ultimately choose?
Who Won ‘The Golden Bachelorette’? Persistence Paid Off for Chock
Yes, it was Chock! Just one simple word, like Joan, or maybe “Duh!”
Joan and Chock have seemed like a perfect match for such a long time. So much so that Guy was clearly on the way out after Joan and her adult kids met with Chock in Bora Bora.
Before his pivotal final encounter with Joan, Guy was enjoying his time as a bachelor in paradise, unfazed by a sudden rainstorm earlier. (That’s absolutely not a bad omen, he reassures himself in the mirror.)
However, when Joan enters his room, the atmosphere is serious. “Can we talk for a moment?” she asks directly as they take a seat. “I’m here to let you know that my heart belongs to someone else.” A tough but graceful move.
Overwhelmed and at a loss for words, Guy breaks down into tears on Joan’s shoulder, weakly asking if she might reconsider. No chance.
The two exit into a quintessential rainy scene − as Guy continues to cry in the downpour, resembling a scene fit for a Ryan Gosling film. Joan opens her umbrella and walks away.
Chock Wins Over Joan’s Children in ‘Golden Bachelorette’ Finale
Chock, who lost his fiancée Cathy to cancer in 2022, successfully connects with Joan’s four adult children: Nicholas, Erica, Allison, and Luke.
He assures Joan’s son, Nick, that he doesn’t intend to take the place of their father, John, who passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2021. “I’m here just to make your mom happy,” Chock said sincerely.
This resonates with Nick, leading to Chock receiving the family’s approval.
When Chock meets Joan afterwards, he expresses his love and reveals his plan to propose − all filled with “I love you” declarations.
Emotional tears of joy fill Joan’s eyes, but she doesn’t reciprocate with “I love you!”
Chock is left feeling anxious, well aware that suspense is part of the show. First, Joan must let Guy go. As is the tradition in Bachelor Nation, she’ll stretch the drama until the ad breaks.
How Did Chock Propose to Joan?
On his way to join Joan, Chock admires the Neil Lane engagement ring aboard the boat. At the sandy end of the idyllic setting, with turquoise waves lapping the shore, Joan waits like a shimmering sea goddess.
“I have something to ask you. I’ve been waiting forever for this,” Chock says as he kneels and opens the ring box. “Joan, will you marry me?”
“Absolutely, I’ll marry you,” Joan replies with delight.
But first, she presents Chock with a symbolic gold rose.
“I love you and I want to spend our lives together,” she shares. “Will you accept this final rose?”
Now it’s Chock’s turn to respond, “Of course.”
“We’re engaged,” the couple joyfully informs the camera.
What are the details of the engagement ring? It’s a dazzling piece!
Chock presents a stunning handmade emerald-cut diamond ring crafted from platinum, featuring two tapered diamond baguettes. This original piece from Neil Lane is adorned with 56 round brilliant cut diamonds, totaling approximately 4 carats.
No one can dispute the wow factor of that gorgeous ring. Although longtime Bachelor Nation designer Lane missed his shining moment during the finale, he was present in the studio audience.
When are Joan and Chock tying the knot?
During the “After the Rose” segment of this season’s “The Golden Bachelorette,” Joan and Chock come together again. They share that they have spent a few months privately in Kansas, and now they can finally be seen as a couple.
With his hand resting on Joan’s knee and her hands placed atop his, they appear to be what Joan’s mother describes as a “nice-looking couple.”
In last season’s “The Golden Bachelor,” Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist declared their intention to get married in a televised ceremony. However, that primetime nuptial ended in divorce just 100 days later. This time around, there’s no conversation about a wedding date, no plans for a reality show marriage, and thankfully, no controversies (Remember the last season of “The Bachelorette”?).
Host Jesse Palmer didn’t even touch on the couple’s future. No inquiries were made. Will Joan move away from her family in Maryland to join Chock? Or will Chock leave his family in Wichita? Or is it possible neither will move?
Both families have been rewarded with a trip to Disney World in Florida, which will have to suffice for now.
Joan encourages seniors and viewers at home to maintain hope, stating, “Everyone deserves love and the chance to give love.” She adds, “Take that leap of faith, and discover your person.”
How did Guy feel about not winning ‘Golden Bachelorette’?
Guy appears to be taking things in stride during the “After the Final Rose” segment, sporting a bright smile and a sun-kissed complexion (perhaps a bit too tanned, but that seems to be the trend lately).
“I thought I was the guy,” he reflects with a touch of regret, but he adds that he realizes he “can find love again.”
