John Mulaney Describes Marrying Olivia Munn as an Unforgettable Joy

John Mulaney describes marrying Olivia Munn as ‘one of the most enjoyable experiences’ of his life

John Mulaney is sharing his thoughts on his marriage to actress Olivia Munn.

The comedian appeared on “Late Night With Seth Meyers” recently, discussing his marriage to “The Newsroom” star. He told Meyers, “I’m married now, it’s fantastic.”

Munn’s mother, Kim Schmid, was in the audience during the show, to which Mulaney humorously remarked, “Hi, Mom,” and mentioned to Meyers, “I refer to her as mom now.”

Joking in his trademark dry humor, Mulaney said, “I’ve found myself in many unique circumstances, and marrying into a large Vietnamese family is one of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve had so far,” while also emphasizing, “But they’re truly the best.” He went on to state that marrying Munn has been “the single best time ever in my life.”

Mulaney and Munn got married last month in a simple ceremony at a friend’s house in New York. Only their 2½-year-old son Malcolm and one witness attended the wedding, which was officiated by Munn’s former co-star from “The Newsroom,” Sam Waterston.

During an April interview on “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman,” Mulaney expressed that he felt a sense of completeness after welcoming their son Malcolm on November 24, 2021.

“I was in awe when I first met him,” the former “SNL” writer shared with Letterman. “I thought, ‘You’re the thing I’ve been searching for.’ I had been looking in all the wrong places.”

Mulaney referred to Munn’s pregnancy as “a big surprise” for both of them. “We were both quite shocked,” he said, causing laughter in the audience. He noted that the secure atmosphere fostered by his parents’ mutual care is something he and Munn aim to provide for Malcolm. “So Olivia and I make it a point to show Malcolm how much we love one another.”

This past year has had its emotional rollercoaster for Munn and Mulaney. In March, Munn disclosed her private battle with breast cancer, which resulted in her undergoing four surgeries, including a double mastectomy.

She publicly expressed gratitude to Mulaney for “the nights he dedicated to researching every procedure and medication, along with the potential side effects and recovery expectations.”
