Stevie Nicks Shares Her Wisdom with Katy Perry: “Step Away from the Online World”

Stevie Nicks Offers Katy Perry Advice on Handling Fame: ‘Stay Off the Internet’

Nearly ten years ago, rock legend Stevie Nicks shared her insights with pop sensation Katy Perry about embracing the music scene as a “Woman’s World.”

Katy was expressing her concerns to Nicks about the harsh treatment female artists face online. In a recent Rolling Stone interview, Nicks recounted, “Katy told me about the internet trolls targeting female singers, how vicious they can be. I responded, ‘I wouldn’t know, as I’m not on the internet.’ When she asked, ‘So, who do you see as your competition?’ I gave her a piercing look and said, ‘Katy, I don’t see anyone as my rival. I have allies. All the women I work with are my friends. Nobody’s competing. Disconnect from the internet, and you won’t have rivals either.’”

YSL News has reached out to representatives for Nicks and Perry for a statement.

Nicks had previously discussed her encounter with Perry at a meeting in London in a similar 2022 article for The New Yorker. She reminisced, “Katy asked, ‘Who do you see as your rivals?’ I replied, ‘I don’t have rivals.’ Her big blue eyes widened in surprise. I said, ‘No, Katy, you’re unique—you’re you, and you excel at what you do.’

She went on to explain her stance: “I remarked, ‘I’m Stevie Nicks; I have my own style and I do it well. The idea of rivals is simply absurd.’ Katy then mentioned the fan armies, like the Taylor Swift army or the Katy army, to which I told her, ‘You must step away from that mindset. Don’t let it invade your thoughts; otherwise, they win.’”

Katy Perry and Taylor Swift’s Feud and Reconciliation

The two renowned pop stars had a long-standing feud, notably highlighted by Swift’s 2014 song “Bad Blood.”

This animosity continued until Perry shared an Instagram story featuring an actual olive branch during Swift’s Reputation World Tour in 2018. The following year, they collaborated in Swift’s “You Need To Calm Down” music video.

Their friendship appears to be enduring. The “Firework” artist attended Swift’s Eras Tour concert in February; last month, during Perry’s acceptance speech for the Video Vanguard Award at the VMAs, Swift showed her support.

During her speech, Perry celebrated the “incredible” emerging artists who demonstrate “confidence, independence, vulnerability, and authenticity.” She echoed Nicks’ earlier advice by encouraging others not to let social media disrupt their lives.

“I learned to filter out the unnecessary chaos that every artist faces in this industry, especially women,” she stated. “My heartfelt advice is to remain true to yourself and your art. Disconnect from social media. Prioritize your mental well-being, take a pause, and reconnect with nature. Pursue what you were meant to do, just as I was destined to do this.”

Stevie Nicks on Taylor Swift’s Relationship with Travis Kelce

Regarding Swift, Nicks expressed her views about her friendship with the creative force behind the Eras Tour, saying, “She is incredibly intelligent and has gone through a lot to reach where she is now, and I hope she has children.”

“I believe she has found a wonderful partner. I hope they continue to deepen their love and enjoy a happily ever after,” Nicks commented, referring to Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs. “He has his career, she has hers, and they can come together when they choose, ideally getting married and having children if that is her desire. All of this is what I wish for her.”
